Online Summer Acting Classes for Kids during COVID-19
Scroll down for our Virtual Class Production (ages 7-14)!
Like many other arts companies and small businesses, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Storybook Theatre was forced to temporarily close our building for in-person classes and events. Our program will continue to be greatly impacted by the pandemic for quite some time. We rely on income from classes and performances to keep our theatre enrichment program running. We also just really MISS being with your students and know that they miss being able to be in our creative space, too.
As a result, we have developed the following options to support our families during this time. We would love to be able to interact with your students virtually, until we can get back into the theatre together! We hope to be back in our space in person for some classes in the upcoming fall semester!
Students may participate virtually from ANYWHERE, so this class is not limited to our local Kansas City area families. This is a fun opportunity to do a class with a friend who may live far away from you - feel free to invite them to join us!
Super Happy Awesome News!: A Virtual Musical
Two siblings launch rival good news networks and find themselves competing for the title of happiest news show. Soon, their correspondents are in a whirlwind of ecstatic musical reporting – from joyful weather forecasts, to cheerful cooking segments and blissful political updates! But, when vulnerability starts peeking through the euphoric facade, they’re left wondering: is there room for raw honesty on a super happy broadcast? This new virtual musical (designed specifically to be rehearsed and performed remotely), incorporates real stories from kids age 7-14, offering a positive outlet for them to express their emotions.
Note: there are singing AND speaking roles available in this show.
You do not have to sing if you don't want to!
In this all-virtual class, students will join their peers for the following activities (and more):
-Weekly 1-hour group Zoom calls with an instructor and other students
-Challenges for learning monologues, practicing diction, and showing emotion
-Participate in a brand-new acting and musical theatre production which will be recorded in separate videos by students in their homes, then combined for a final product that can be shared with family and friends!
-Ability to interact with friends via Zoom and Virtual Classroom
There are multiple times available for the weekly Zoom class meeting.
To register for the class, just select the default time (right now it is set for July 19) and complete the registration form. After you have registered, you will receive an email with details on how to select your Zoom class time. All other activities can be completed at ANY time from your home.
