Storybook Acting skills Classes

Storybook's skills classes have been designed to help your child learn core acting. Whether your child is shy or not, this class will be an encouraging and fun environment to learn and grow together. We suggest this as a great beginner class for the student who is unsure about acting, but also for the experienced student with several past productions on their theatrical resume, as we will cover skills and topics such as body language, facial expressions, character work, projection, pronunciation, diction, and more. These are skills that do not always come naturally, but will help the student in their growth in the acting world!

During the 9 weeks of class, the students will incorporate what they’ve learned into short showcase performance which will be presented at the end of the semester.

As Gastoff and his sniveling pals set out after Belle, Beast warms to the kindhearted Belle, who teaches him to read and write.  When vainglorious Gastoff arrives, he finds that Belle is no captive of Beast, but rather captivated by his newfound literacy!

Show Description:

Young Danny Smith and his sister Nancy are vacationing at Coney Island when Cap’n Spoon, the Pirate King, and his men are sighted.  What else can Barnacle Bess, the Fisherwoman, do but radio out to sea for Captain Nemo and his magical marvelous Submarine Machine, the Nautilus?  It’s an underwater vehicle that can also fly like a jet plane and travel on land like a mobile home!  It comes equipped with scanoscopes that monitor giant squid, sleep rays that neutralize enemies and an alarm system to alert the crew to impending danger.

The encounter with the zany Cap’n Spoon becomes a hilarious scene when it’s discovered he imprisons vacationing girls and boys so he can write ransom notes demanding sliver tablespoons (we won’t reveal why he wants the spoons...  that’s part of the fun)!  Then the Sea Witch appears, determined to steal the Nautilus and use it for her evil schemes.  She enlists the aid of Spoon and his band in a plan to take over the submarine and capture Nemo.  But Danny and Nancy join with Nemo in defeating the Sea Witch and her Pirate Crew.

Show Description:

This musical features a variety of charming school fish and sea-creature characters who admire the famous Rainbow Fish, the most beautiful fish in all the ocean.  When Rainbow Fish refuses to share his (or her!)  vibrant, shimmering scales (played by separate actors who become a chorus for solo songs), the whole ocean seems to turn against the vain creature.  Unhappy that no one adores him anymore, the Rainbow Fish seeks out the wise Octopus, whose tentacles can also be played by separate actors.  Octopus helps the young fish learn that it’s far better to be admired for being kind than for being beautiful.
