Note: All students who register will be cast in the production. Auditions are simply to assign roles; we are not a "pay to audition" theatre company. In our full-studio productions, some students may receive ensemble roles (singing+dancing but no spoken lines). Rehearsal time commitments will be determined by role received. Example: if you're cast as Ariel, odds are good you will need to be at 99% of rehearsals. If you are cast as a Sea Creature, you will not have to come to all of the listed times below.

Production Team:

Director - Carolyn Wasson

Music Director - Lauren Auge

Choreographer - Stephanie Beadle

Stage Manager - Jenna Wright

Synopsis:

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Actors should plan to bring their own makeup and personal items such as tights, shoes, or basic shirts/pants as needed. Anything students need to provide will be communicated via email once the production has been cast.

NOTE THAT THERE IS A DISCOUNT OF $50 IF YOU ARE ALSO PARTICIPATING IN A STORYBOOK THEATRE PERFORMANCE CAMP DURING SUMMER 2025
. We will refund this to you if you sign up at two different times. To sign up for both at once, please use this form.

Production t-shirts will be available for $20.

Tickets:
Tickets - will be $13 (Adult) / $10 (Kids) if purchased in advance or $15 (Adult) / $12 (Kids) at the door. Children ages 3+ require a ticket. Each participating student receives two (2) free tickets for parents/guardians to attend one performance.

Who can audition:
Auditions are open to youth ages 7-18. Storybook Theatre students are encouraged to participate, but the production is not limited to those who have been involved here in the past; you may audition even if you have never worked with us before. Ages 4-7 may participate by signing up to be in the Shining Stars, Shooting Stars, or Shimmering Stars class this semester (they do NOT need to audition and will automatically be invited to be in the cast if they are part of this class).

What if I'm not available for these audition dates?
Contact us to make alternate arrangements.

I'm participating in a Storybook Theatre Summer Camp(s) Can I still audition?
If you have signed up to participate in another Storybook Theatre class during the summer 2026 semester, you are still welcome to audition for this production. If you are participating in a performance camp in summer 2026, you will get a $50 discount on the production fee for this show. The ONLY thing that majorly contradicts with this rehearsal schedule is the teen production of "The Groom Has Cold Feet" - you can't be in that AND The Little Mermaid.

What to Expect at Auditions:
1. Sign up for a 10-minute audition slot. Signup for your time HERE.
2. Prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic or comedic monologue and be prepared to recite it at auditions. Please also prepare 16-32 measures of an upbeat musical theater song.  Please be prepared to show us lots of character!
3. Fill out the Audition Form (include ALL conflicts from May 21 – July 18).
4. Arrive at audition location at least five minutes prior to your scheduled time. You may be called to audition one at a time or in small groups. Auditions are closed (parents/guardians may wait in our waiting room during your audition).
5. Callback list will be emailed to participants. If you are not called back, this does NOT mean you have not been cast in the production. Please check your email by Friday, May 22 for the cast list. EVERYONE will be cast in the production!

Please realize that this production has a large time commitment (much more so than a school year show). It will require character work and dedication on the part of every individual who is cast in the show.

Tentative Rehearsal Schedule:
Note: The full cast will not be called to EVERY rehearsal. If you hope to be considered for a lead, please plan to be available for AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal until the end of June or early July. Even so, this will still be a rather rigorous rehearsal process, so be aware of the time commitment ahead of time. A more specific rehearsal schedule with details as to who is called on which days will be sent out once the show is cast. If you hope to be considered for a lead, we ask that you clear your schedule for these dates as much as possible.

Please bring ALL conflicts to auditions so that we can plan the best schedule based on availability.

These dates and times are subject to change as we realize production needs.
