Storybook Acting skills Classes
Storybook's skills classes have been designed to help your child learn core acting. Whether your child is shy or not, this class will be an encouraging and fun environment to learn and grow together. We suggest this as a great beginner class for the student who is unsure about acting, but also for the experienced student with several past productions on their theatrical resume, as we will cover skills and topics such as body language, facial expressions, character work, projection, pronunciation, diction, and more. These are skills that do not always come naturally, but will help the student in their growth in the acting world!
During the 9 weeks of class, the students will incorporate what they’ve learned into short showcase performance which will be presented at the end of the semester.
Acting Essentials

Join us for a fun class where you'll learn some new skills to aid you both onstage and off, plus memorize and perform a short script at the end of the session!

Students who participate in an Acting Essentials class will also have the optional opportunity to perform in The Miracle Worker play prodution in a featured ensemble role - February 26-27, 2027.
To participate in this additional role, a few additional rehearsals will be held at Storybook's main location, The City House (14300 US Highway 40, KC, MO). Dates and details will be sent by January 1 to enrolled students!
*NOTE: your student DOES NOT have to register for a "skills" class. Students are welcome to register for a skills class alone, a performance class alone, or a combination of both. Sign up for a performance class + an acting skills class and save $25.* To get this discount, sign up for your production class and click the "Skills add-on" option during registration, or fill out our multiple class request form.
Storybook Kids PERFORMANCE Classes
The Storybook Kids Classes below include options for ages 7-12.
If student's birthday falls during the current semester to make them the minimum age, they are eligible to participate.
It is helpful for students to be able to read, but not required.

Each time is for ONE production. Class commitment is one rehearsal a week (see below for exceptions)

Musical theatre will return as an option in the spring semester!
Each play performance class has rehearsal for 8-9 weeks. Musicals run for a longer number of weeks.
Please read full schedule of rehearsals and performances before registering.
Each student who registers will receive a speaking role in the production unless they specifically request otherwise.
Registration will close when the maximum number of participants has been reached.
Auditions on the first day of class will determine part distribution.
No previous acting experience required to participate.
Students may participate in multiple productions if desired.
Performance day call (arrival) time is typically 2.5 hours prior to performance but sometimes varies.
Parents will be asked to help during tech week by running ticket/concession sales, providing supplies, and assisting as needed. It is MANDATORY to help with strike (cleanup) after the close of each performance.

Show Description:
Olivia and Hilda, owners of the Fantastic Frills Hair Salon, are about to close up shop when suddenly their business explodes with customers like Rapunzel (who's in need of a haircut), Cinderella (who's looking for an overhaul before the ball), and Briar Rose (who's been asleep for 100 years). Hilarity and chaos ensue as these hair salon owners do their best to meet the style needs of the fairy tale community!

Show Description:
All the scenes you’d expect from the classic are here, but faster and funnier than ever! Heck, this show is so “lite,” it only has five dwarves! Since they don’t need help with cooking and cleaning, they hand Snow White a plunger and put her to work! When the Queen, cleverly disguised in Groucho glasses, tries to finish Snow White off with a poisoned apple, the girl is saved by the quick response from Prince Heimlich. Audiences of all ages will love the tongue-in-cheek humor in this surprisingly witty adaptation. It’s absolutely de-LITE-ful!
